Los Angeles, CA — January 2010

At Quinn Emanuel, Steve successfully represented major companies such as Mentor, Applied Materials, and Eaton Corporation in several high-stakes patent disputes. Steve holds a J.D. degree from Harvard Law School (magna cum laude) and a B.S.E. degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Michigan.

Prior to attending law school, Steve was a process engineer and process control engineer for Amoco Oil Company. He has experience in a wide variety of technologies, including lubricant chemistries, polyalkylene glycols, alkylene oxide production processes, oil refining, exhaust aftertreatment, nucleic acid isolation and purification, molecular diagnostic testing, protein chemistry, biosensors, nanotechnology, transdermal drug delivery, rapid prototyping, immunoassays, bicycle components, vehicle lifts, polymers, pressure sensitive adhesives, medical devices, scanning electron microscopy, vehicle safety systems, remote controls, and business methods.

Ed, a graduate of Yale University (B.S. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry) and University of Southern California (J.D.) was a formerly a patent litigator with intellectual property powerhouses Manatt, Phelps & Phillips and Kenyon & Kenyon. Ed’s patent litigation and prosecution experience includes a broad range of technologies, including biotechnology, pharmaceutical processes and products, Internet and e-commerce, data storage, access, and synchronization, wired and wireless e-mail, wired and wireless networks, music recognition and downloads, encryption and copy protection, analog and digital signal processing, computer software, hardware, and peripherals, and other mechanical and electrical devices.

LTL Partner Enoch Liang remarked: “The LTL Patent Litigation Practice Group was established to respond to our clients’ increasingly vital intellectual property needs and assets. With the addition of Steve and Ed, I believe that our patent litigators have the know-how and experience comparable to our counterparts at major law firms to handle sophisticated “bet the company” patent disputes.” The LTL Patent Litigation Practice Group is indeed off to an impressive start. LTL has been retained to replace a major international law firm in three patent litigation matters spanning several states, including a protracted dispute against Google.
