LTL Obtains Seven-Figure Verdict for VIZIO in Federal Trial

On behalf of VIZIO, Inc., America’s #1 Smart TV Company, LTL obtained a complete trial victory in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. VIZIO filed a breach of contract suit against Gemtek Technology Company Ltd., a large electronics manufacturer, over the delivery of defective wireless HDMI devices. VIZIO was awarded all the damages it sought, including costs and interest, totaling over $1.4 million. VIZIO also defeated the defendant’s counterclaims in their entirety.

The case involved new and complex hardware and software technology, and witnesses from various countries. LTL conducted targeted discovery, and used the latest technology to manage discovery and create powerful trial demonstratives. But more importantly, LTL was able to aggressively and successfully cross-examine and impeach Gemtek’s witnesses to such an extent that Gemtek rested its case early without calling its final witnesses.

LTL’s trial team included partner James M. Lee, and associates Timothy Fox and Cyrus Khojandpour. Gemtek was represented by a five lawyer trial team from Venable LLP, including the head of its Intellectual Property Department. “LTL is proud of the trial victory for VIZIO,” said managing partner James M. Lee. “We leveraged our experience, background in technology, and trial presentation skills to obtain the result VIZIO deserved.”
